The Philips 65PUS8807, also known as “The One”, is a 65 inch TV that boasts a sleek design and impressive features such as Ambilight technology and the P5 picture processing engine. At a price of just $1,217, it is a solid choice for those looking for a high-quality TV. The TV has a VA type panel and is illuminated by a direct LED system, and two of its four HDMI ports are capable of handling 4K/120Hz gaming signals as well as VRR and ALLM. It also supports Dolby Vision gaming at up to 60Hz and allows users to optimize gaming performance with HGiG. Smart features are provided by version 11 of Android TV, and all of the main HDR formats – HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ – are supported.
Unfortunately, the 65PUS8807’s picture performance falls short of expectations. Out of the box, its pictures can appear unnatural and heavily processed. Black levels appear forced and can crush subtle detailing, leading to hollow and empty looking dark areas, especially when watching Dolby Vision sources. The TV’s colors are also peculiar, with coarse shading and obvious striping in dark scenes and a plastic-like appearance in lighter ones. The TV’s motion handling is also somewhat lacking, with objects appearing smeary and indistinct.
Overall, the Philips 65PUS8807 “The One” TV has a sleek design and impressive features, but its picture performance leaves something to be desired.
