The OneThird Freshness Scanner Determines Shelf Life of Produce Using Near-Infrared Laser

OneThird has developed a “freshness scanner” that uses proprietary algorithms to interpret data from a near-infrared laser to determine the shelf life of produce in real-time. The scanner aims to reduce food waste by up to 25%, as up to 40% of the perishable food brought to market each year, valued at around $1 trillion, is discarded before reaching consumers. The scanner is available in two versions: one for use by consumers in the produce aisle and another for use by growers in the supply chain. The scanner’s technology is intended to address the global challenge of food waste and its impact on food scarcity.
